Sports

  • Auvergne: Snowkites, freestyle, speed riding, freeride and snowscoots are available in Super-Besse, Le Lioran, Le Mont-Dore, Le Sancy and Les Estables.
  • Burgundy: The ‘Champs Retards’ grotto’ is adventure course, unique in France where pendulum jumping is also available.
  • Midi-Pyrenées: The Pic du Midi is now opened to mountain bikes. Setting out at 2,872m, the descent to the valley covers a difference in altitude of 1,800m.
  • Rhône-Alpes: ‘I way’ in Lyon: a world exclusive, a unique complex with 18 motor racing simulators (Formula 1, rally), one restaurant and one spa. Thrilling!
  • Savoie Mont Blanc: Try the fantastic Chatel and fly like a bird at 100km per hour.

Accommodation

  • Brittany: Choose from beautifully restored vintage vans (a 1934 Winchester, a 1956 Willerby or a Sologne or 1969’s Notin) are available at the Domaine du Roc.
  • Normandy: Spend the night in a suspended tent in beautiful Normandy woodland situated just a stone’s throw from the picturesque coastline.

Cultural

  • Languedoc Roussillon: Utopix is a live magical kingdom of stone, built & designed by Jo Pillet with exhibition spaces (indoor and outdoor).
  • Nord pas de Calais: A unique day out discovering Lille retro-style aboard a traditional and mythical 2CV! Available all year round.
  • Riviera: Nice and in partnership with Gay and Lesbian associations has just created a referential system defining the criteria for quality hospitality, enabling member establishments to obtain the 'Nice, irisée naturellement' label.
  • Clos Luce: Don't miss the entrance to the secret underground passage, that, according to tradition, led to the Château royal d'Amboise and King Francis I would sometimes use this to visit Leonardo.
  • Nantes 2012: The ‘Machines de l'Ile’ : Get on board the Great Elephant, look round the new Gallery, walk along the prototype branch from the future Heron Tree, and on 15 July 2012 discover the merry-go-round of the Marine’s world.

Accommodation

  • Brittany: For an unusual night’s sleep, book into Kastell Dinn – upturned boats-turned-gîtes! This pair of cosy cottages makes the perfect love nest.
  • Normandy: La Cour au Grip is perfectly located on the ‘cider route’. Guests are invited to spend the night in a giant Calvados barrel, which has been converted into a bedroom.
  • Poitou-Charentes: The beautifully decorated modern guest-houses, gîte or camping of the splendid Château de Lerse make perfect bases to discover the nearby picturesque villages.
  • Rhône-Alpes: ‘Space-age’ bubbles at the Domaine du Tisserand in the Drôme give guests the chance to fall asleep counting the stars, whilst the Tree Orb is a comfortable type of tree-house unlike no other.

  • Auvergne: Learn the ancient art of paper making with J.Hacking, an English B&B owner, and create your own design of paper.
  • Burgundy: Celebrate the ‘Year of the Archaeology’ with dedicated cooking demonstrations held on the Bibrate site, where the Gaulois used to live.
  • Club French Heritage & Culture: Lille3000, FANTASTIC, from 6 October 2012 to 13 January 2013.
  • Corsica: don’t miss the Island Sanctuary and the five nature reserves on the Island: Iles Cerbicales, Iles Lavezzi, Iles Finocchiarola, Scandola (labeled by the UNESCO), Bigulia pond.
  • Languedoc Roussillon: In 2010, The Grotte de Clamouse was the first cave to be equipped with LED lighting to ensure a sustainable use. A Must See Spot! Also, recently opened is an amazing new show: Magnificat, poème de Clamouse, which is an "Opera della Terra" which transports the audience on each tour into an unreal and exciting atmosphere.
  • Midi-Pyrénées: Unique to France, the Cahors Secret Gardens have taken over the city and this original initiative tempts one to stroll through the medieval streets, taking in the history of Cahors through its heritage and plants cultivated in the Middle Ages.
  • Savoie Mont-Blanc: An affordable and stunning treat: fly above the Mont Blanc from Megève and the mythical summits around it: Grande Jorasse, Drus, Mer de Glace.
  • Riviera: Access the world of manufacturing at Fragonard, Gallimard and Molinard factories in Grasse, the World’s perfume capital. Even create your own perfume!

Sports

  • Poitou-Charentes: The “Velo-rail” machines have four wheels and two pedals, and can carry up to five people. Ride past woods and fields, and over a 160m viaduct that gives a great view of the stunning countryside.
  • Savoie Mont Blanc: Winter or summer Luge’s parks (Alpine Coaster) can be found in Chamonix, Les Saisies and La Clusaz and are great fun for kids and their parents.

Accommodation

  • Burgundy: 4 “Countryside caravans” with all comfort and cosiness, 2 “stars squares” to admire the stars at night since your bed, and 3 “Eco-Pods” for the most adventurous are offered by ‘Clos d’Aventure’.
  • Midi Pyrenees: Les Gouttes d’Eaux are two transparent bubbles in the Tarn-et-Garonne, in which you can sleep and… enjoy an unprecedented view of the stars!

Cultural

  • Auvergne: Every summer the Massif du Sancy plays host to a marvellous spectacle whose central theme of these encounters is man’s relationship with the natural world.
  • Brittany: Go batty at the Maison de la Chauve Souris! This interactive discovery centre dedicated to bats in Kernascléden is a brilliantly fun day out for all the family.
  • Languedoc Roussillon: Horse-drawn carriages or sleds in winter can be used to tour ‘La Margeride’ where European bison have been reintroduced.
  • Ile de Ré: In the past, donkeys were wearing pants to protect them from insect bites and cuts from weed. Today they still provide loads on entertainment to the children.
  • Rhône-Alpes: Located close to Lyon, Salva Terra is a medieval theme park offering families entertainment, shows, and games within a 5-hectare natural area.
  • Riviera: "Settled down on a hillside, Terre d’Arômes propose to discover the atypical Yurts as well as proposing bio meals as well whole bio range of products.

Sports

  • Savoie Mont Blanc: A unique way to enjoy stunning views on the mountains with hot air balloons rides in Praz sur Arly, Les Carroz d'Araches or Les Saisies villages.
  • Riviera: Visitors are bound to be less than half an hour from a golf course on the Riviera. All aesthetically and technically perfect, and all in outstanding surroundings.

Cultural

  • Auvergne: This ‘National centre for stage costume and stage design’ has a unique collection on display in a beautiful building of the Villars district of Moulins.
  • Languedoc Roussillon:Created in 1994, the 220 ha ‘Regional Natural Reserve du Scamandre’ area protects typical natural habitats of Camargue (reedbeds, riparian woods, open marshes ...). 171 species have been recorded here.
  • Midi - Pyrenées: Gloves from Millau, combining style and finesse, are the result of the tanning and glove-making industries which have existed here since the 12th century.
  • Nord Pas de Calais: Looking for the real French experience? Why not rent an iconic Citroen 2CV and drive around the countryside in search of a green space for a picnic?
  • Poitou - Charentes: In this picturesque village, ‘Tour de Canard’ offers the opportunity to rent a 2CV and to explore at one's own pace the authentic Southwest France. Well-supplied picnic basket in the back!
  • Rhône - Alpes: Ferdinand Cheval was a postman who spent 33 years building his ‘Ideal Palace’ entirely alone. A stunning example of naïve art inspired by everything from the Bible to Hindu mythology.
  • Var: a vintage American bus dating from the 1963 and coming from Nevada transformed into a ‘Bus & Breakfast’ just in the middle of the Provence vineyards

  • Auvergne: 2012 will see the launch of a new website http://www.nordic-walking-france.com and the edition of a guide book that maps the stunning walks in the mountains of the Massif du Sancy.
  • Languedoc Roussillon: Kite surf courses are available at the Kite Surf's school created by Sylvain Hoceini, speed vice-World champion.
  • Nord Pas de Calais: An up to four-day hike with donkeys from the countryside down to the sea can be a way to escape from it all.
  • Riviera: The French Riviera is the “Hot Spot” of world mountain biking, thanks to a favourable landscape and good facilities: Roubion and Auron ski resorts have made special efforts to develop and mark out the runs open to the general public.

Cultural

  • Burgundy: The Temple of a 1000 Buddhas was the first Tibetan Buddhist monastery built in Europe and now welcomes visitors for a day visit or for a longer spiritual retreat.
  • Corsica: The Island Sanctuary: five stunning nature reserves on the Island which contain sites of specific interest for scientists.
  • Midi-Pyrenées: Visitors can now spend the night at the magical Observatory of the Pic du Midi (2872m) to study the galaxy with an astronomer, enjoy a gastronomic meal and watch the sunrise over the Pyrenean chain.
  • Nantes 2012: The ‘Machines de l'Ile’: get on board the Great Elephant, visit the new Gallery, walk along the prototype branch from the future Heron Tree, admire the creator’s work in progress and from July 15th 2012 discover the merry-go-round of the Marines worlds.
  • Rhône-Alpes: Firminy now has an Interpretation Centre about Le Corbusier. It is the perfect place to gain an oversight into the architect's urban planning for the town, including the avant-garde “living unit”.
