Oenology

  • Auvergne: La Sangria is the oldest independent café-concert bar of Auvergne, with more than 1,000 free concerts under its belt.
  • Midi - Pyrenées: The famous bars and concerts of Place St Pierre in Toulouse are always busy with students and sport lovers alike.
  • Nord Pas de Calais: Oyster bar ‘A L’Huitrière’ in Lille: If you can’t afford the restaurant, you can still go the great lounge bar where they serve delicious seafood.
  • Rhône - Alpes: The Bistrots de Pays in Southern Ardèche and Drôme Provençale are delightful and offer typical and authentic cuisine, based on regional produces.
  • Savoie Mont Blanc: Le Bachal in La Clusaz is the place to go for a mulled wine or hot chocolate after skiing or cocktails and dancing later in the evening.
  • Riviera: Tsumoru Takano and Laurent Kenji Inoue have just opened "Les deux canailles" restaurant in Nice. The chef uses regional produces with a Japanese twist

  • Nantes 2012: the old biscuits factory LU lives to the rhythm of an atypical art centre: the Lieu Unique. Here, you will find a bar, a shop, theatre (nationwide tour venue) a hammam, bar and restaurant at very affordable price.

  • Languedoc Roussillon: ‘Hostellerie Le Castellas’, is a renowned gastronomic restaurant, a real treat for the taste buds, only using local and exceptional produces.
  • Nord Pas de Calais: Auberge du Vert Mont in Boeschepe, with the best of the region’s country produces and a chef recently named ‘Young Talent of the Year’ is not to be missed.
  • Normandy: The restaurant ‘G.a’ of the Manoir de Rétival in Caudebec in Caux guarantees, with only 12 covers, to offer a personal and unforgettable dining experience.
  • Poitou Charentes: Les Quatres Sergents in La Rochelle proposes a modern and traditional cuisine, all with local produces. Newly redecorated, it's the perfect place for a romantic dinner!
  • Ile de Ré: Sample an inventive, fine, and tasty cuisine with ocean accents at La Cabine de Sain, bistro and seafood.

  • Normandy: The Hotel ‘La Ferme des Mares’ is now offering cookery lessons run by its English chef/owner, Mike Allen.
  • Rhône-Alpes: The Bocafina’s talented team organises classes about food and wine.

Local produce

  • Auvergne: A region brimming rich in character and specialities such as local cooked-meat products, wine, cheese and the green lentil from Le Puy-en-Velay. Try the "petit salé" (salted belly pork), accompanied by sausages and spare ribs.
  • Brittany: Children will love the ‘milk bar’ of the Dairy farm Gwel-kaer in Goudelin. Fresh milk from the cow, the ultimate rice pudding, milkshake cocktails, freshly churned butter and Far Breton, the famous Breton dessert can all be tasted.
  • Dordogne Valley: Le moulin à l'huile de Noix à Martel, La Maison des Abeilles à Rocamadour, La Fromagerie de Rocamadour are all to be enjoyed.
  • Limousin: Limousin is recognized for its top quality products (meat, apples, berries, mushrooms etc) which can be found in the local markets.
  • Midi-Pyrenées: The Maison de Justine and the goat farm opposite where the famous Rocamadour goat cheeses are made are both not to be missed.
  • Var: "Découvertes du Terroir" organises about 90 original visits from free to 5€ all along the year to meet over 70 farmers who will make children and adults discover their products and their trade.

  • Languedoc Roussillon: Enjoy lunching at the cafeteria and at the more traditional restaurant of the Pont du Gard
  • Nord Pas de Calais: The Atelier de Steff in Dunkerque is a discount gastronomic restaurant, ideal for having children enjoy French cuisine on a budget.
  • Normandy: Le Bistrot des Ecuries is a traditional local bistro offering simple but delicious dishes inspired by fresh, local products.

  • Clos Luce: Renaissance dinner served in period costume in the 15th century Priory with its beautiful Renaissance rooms and shaded terrace.
  • Nantes 2012: Watch the Elephant go by the Café de la Branche, stay in the atmosphere of the castle at the café-restaurant “les Oubliettes”, and get a tea break at the Cigale, 1900 brasserie.

  • Burgundy: L'Atelier des chefs in Dijon will teach you to cook in just 60 minutes a delicious meal tutored by an experienced chef before savouring it.
  • Rhône-Alpes: With many years of experience, Fred provides cooking and pastry classes combining theory, hands-on learning, and tasting at ‘La cuisine de Fred’.
  • Riviera: In the world of flowers and sweets, ‘L’Atelier de la Cuisine’ des Fleurs offers cooking classes and tasting in a warm and friendly setting.

  • Brittany: Where better to indulge in Moules-Frites than Le Bistro à Moules in Hillion. Mussels are served 11 different ways with a generous serving of home-made chips.
  • Dordogne Valley: An array of food celebrations are held in Dordogne such as the ‘Strawberry Fair’ in Beaulieu sur Dordogne and the ‘Prune Fair’ in Carennac…
  • Limousin: Top quality producers and the art of fine dining, tradition, quality and good taste can be found in farmers’ markets, inns and Michelin starred restaurants.
  • Poitou Charentes: On the last Saturday of July, a big floating market is held with over 50 local producers selling their wares along the canals of the magical Marais Poitevin. Nearly 15,000 people attended the market last year.
  • Rhone-Alpes: Mushroom weekend in Vercors: one day spent picking mushrooms with a guide, picnicking in the forest, preparing the mushrooms and finishing with a great meal.
  • Var: lots of famous local produce to taste such as olive , labeled figs from Sollies, truffles, chesnuts from the Maures forest , gingerbread, aromatic honeys and ‘Provence Wines’, red, white and rose.
  • Vendee: On February 2011, the Vendee wines - Brem, Mareuil, Pissotte, Vix and Chantonnay - have received the national AOC label, marketed under the “Fiefs Vendéens” label.

  • Nord Pas de Calais: ‘Bienvenue chez Nous’ in the lovely town of Bergues is a fantastic restaurant serving some great wines.
  • Ile de Ré: Set in a typical oyster farm, La Cabane du Fier provides a terrace with breathtaking views and market and sea products, grilled over a wood fire.
  • Savoie Mont Blanc: The Hotel-Restaurant Le Montenvers has a superb location overhanging the Mer de Glace and can only be accessed with the Petit Train du Montenvers.
  • Riviera: 2 newly Michelin Star awarded "Mon Rêve de Gosse" with Ludovic Ordas and "Park 45" with Sebastien Broda will let you discover the Mediterranean gourmet’s delight with a glass of wonderful wine of St Honorat island, owned and made by Cistercian monks.
  • Nantes 2012: wine tasting at the Loire Valley Wine Centre, and having dinner or lunch in La Cigale 1900 French brasserie. Stunning décor of this listed restaurant.

Culinary schools

  • Auvergne: Cooking classes available at the Michelin starred Regis Marcon restaurant.
  • Burgundy: Cooking lessons are available at the 3 Michelin stars ‘La Côte St Jacques’ restaurant, whether you choose a course lasting a few hours, an entire weekend, or several weekdays.
  • Marseilles: Miramar – restaurant and cooking classes organised by the Tourist Office and Convention Bureau in partnership with the Miramar restaurant. Chef Christian Buffa will reveal his secret recipe for this unique Marseille specialty each third thursday of the month.

  • Burgundy: La Grange is an authentic place to stop for lunch and eat local food made by local farmers with products from their farms. It is held in the medieval village of Flavigny, which was also the site of the movie 'Chocolat'.

Restaurants

  • Auvergne: Le Grand Café is a unique brasserie restaurant in Moulins. It is a Grade II listed historic monument and has retained its 1899 décor. As a young woman, Coco Chanel would sing there at nights.
  • Languedoc Roussillon: The Reserve Rimbaud restaurant in Montpellier is set above the calm and green coloured Lez river where an inventive menu based on traditional products is served.
  • Midi-Pyrénées: 'Chez Navarre' is a friendly and confidential guest table located in the antique shops district of Toulouse where sharing a table with others is 'de rigueur'.
  • Nord Pas de Calais: Whilst everything in this restaurant is designed for the comfort of guests, it also takes back in time into the atmosphere of an earlier industrial age, being housed in a former 19th century iron foundry.
  • Ile de Ré: On the harbour of Ars-en-Ré, the V Bistrot Wine Bar offers everything from a full breakfast, fines de claires oysters, large charcuterie platters, plate of 4 assorted cheeses served with jams, all accompanied with the owner's favourite wines by the glass.
  • Club French Heritage & Culture: as you’ll visit the Loire valley, enjoy a lunch at the gastronomy restaurant "l'Orangerie" in the charming Château of Chenonceau, also known as the ‘Ladies’ Chateau’.
  • Nantes 2012: after some wine tasting at the Loire Valley Wine Centre, head to La Civelle, a restaurant in the heart of the quaint village of Trentemoult.
  • Marseilles: Le Perroquet bleu used to be an illicit cabaret in the 19th century and the scene of many extravaganza nights in the 90s… Today, this wine-bar, cafe & restaurant offers simple yet generous lunches. Some nights, the animated ambiance in the wine cellar only is worth a trip!
